DC Peace Team is joining Campaign Nonviolence Action Days on International Day of Peace (September 21st). Please join us and Pace e Bene in taking action to promote peace. This year’s theme is “Cultivating a Culture of Peace”, which is our core mission here at DC Peace Team through providing training and support on nonviolent habits and skills. Active Listening is vital in the skill of Nonviolent Communication. We’ll be handing out campaign stickers at the training. To learn more about Campaign Nonviolence 2024 and other events around the world, head over the campaign’s page.Nonviolent Communication (NVC), or Compassionate Communication, is a powerful tool for transforming and mediating interpersonal, intra-personal, organizational, and inter-group conflicts. It is used worldwide by community health workers, activists, teachers, conflict specialists, doctors, diplomats, social workers, managers and others to improve their work and home life. The practice of NVC can help us understand ourselves more fully, provide us with a sense of power and choice in our lives, and open our hearts to compassionately connect and collaborate with others.

Active listening is when you not only hear what someone is saying, but also attune to their thoughts and feelings. It turns a conversation into an active, non-competitive, two-way interaction. This interactive workshop will focus on defining and practicing active listening in real time. Sensitivity to effective communication will be the takeaway goal. As we prepare for the session, please identify a recent conflict that you are comfortable using for our exercises.
